Overview
Happy Monday, traders. RSI dropped their weekly comm-link this morning and, as usual, we read it twice — once as fans, once as analysts. The headline: Ship Showdown 2956 has crowned the RSI Perseus as Undisputed Champion of the 'Verse. The gunship took down the Drake Ironclad Assault in a final that apparently had the forums in flames, with the Origin M80 and Drake Corsair rounding out the Final Four. All four will receive Best In Show honors at this year's Intergalactic Aerospace Expo, which means BIS liveries and paint variants are officially on the horizon.
Elsewhere in the post: subscribers got their September perks, headlined by the MISC Freelancer MAX as Vehicle of the Month alongside decorative display cases. RSI also published the August PU Monthly Report, with dev work feeding into Alpha 4.10: Siege of Orison and beyond. And the Bar Citizen World Tour continues — PAX West in Seattle is done, Milan is next on September 19.
Looking ahead, this week brings the September Monthly Bundle comm-link on Tuesday (armor, weapon, and ship paint bundle tied to Alpha 4.10.1), the kickoff of Pirate Week 2026 on Wednesday alongside a Roadmap Update and Roundup, the RSI newsletter Friday, and ATMO esports' Fight or Flight 2026 season opener on Saturday — with registration closing midnight UTC on September 11 for anyone still on the fence.
Trader's Analysis
Let's talk about what actually moves the needle for us: the Perseus win is a classic buy-the-rumor, sell-the-news setup, and we've seen this movie before. Ship Showdown winners historically see a short-term bump in grey market asks as FOMO buyers chase the "champion" badge, followed by a fade once BIS paints hit the pledge store and supply loosens. If you were sitting on Perseus CCUs purchased during the last concept sale, this is your liquidity window — historically, champion ships see asks run 15–25% over melt in the days following the announcement before normalizing. We'd be trimming into strength, not chasing.
The more interesting play is the M80 and Corsair as Final Four finishers. Both are attainable CCU-chain targets, and BIS paint eligibility tends to drag standalone hull interest upward. The Corsair in particular has been a steady grey market performer — it's a sub-$300 hull with real utility, which makes it a favorite for chained upgrades from cheaper starters. If you can lock in a Corsair at or near melt before BIS week, the historical pattern says you'll have buyers at Expo. The M80 is thinner volume but higher ticket — less liquidity, more patience required.
On the Freelancer MAX as September's Vehicle of the Month: subscriber perks don't usually move grey market pricing much, but they do signal which hulls CIG wants visible. The MAX has been a quiet value hold — decent melt, stable secondary pricing, and a reliable CCU stepping stone toward larger MISC and Drake hulls. If you're building a chain toward something bigger, the MAX is a fine rung. Just don't expect subscriber flair to create a premium; it never has, and display cases certainly won't change that.
One more note: Pirate Week kicking off Wednesday is worth watching. Historically, Pirate Week brings limited paints, themed bundles, and occasionally hull availability windows that create short-lived arbitrage between pledge store and grey market. Keep your warbond-versus-store-credit spread calculations handy — that's where the real margin lives.
Our Take
ORONST's position is straightforward: we're net sellers on Perseus hype and net accumulators on Final Four CCU fodder. The Perseus is a fantastic ship and a deserving champion, but champions get priced for perfection, and perfection is a bad entry. The Corsair and M80, by contrast, are being priced for indifference — and indifference is where traders make money.
We're also watching the September Monthly Bundle closely. Paint and armor bundles tied to a patch cycle (4.10.1 here) tend to have low secondary demand, so unless there's a hull attached, we'd treat it as a collectible, not an investment. Patience over hype, as always.
